Finishing this mural today with the girls at Granville High! Led by @lottealexisThe ideas for the design were created together by the girls & refugee women from the @womenscreativehub , brought together into one design by @lottealexis : "Malala is featured because she is an awesome role model and the girls spoke about their connection to her. Another recurring theme was having women standing together some wearing hijabs others wearing singlets and shorts - it doesn't matter how look or choose to express yourself everyone deserves respect and to be treated equally. Finally - a girl on top of a building to show that she is on top of the world and anything is possible. In the original brainstorming collage, a chimpanzee face was pasted on the girl because they are extremely smart though we assume that they aren't because they are animals. This also became a metaphor for how we are born into a society that still questions our worth and ability on our gender and that we are still fighting to educate others and unlearn this kind of thinking within ourselves."
