@regrannedfrom @franslanting-On Sep. 22 we celebrate World Rhino Day — She is massive, armed with horns and protected by thick skin, and yet she is utterly vulnerable. One ear is pointing my way, the other faces backwards. Rhinos make up for not seeing well with a sharp sense of hearing. Her calf is just curious, and has no clue what is facing them. But we know what is happening to them across Africa and Asia. Rhinos are in imminent danger of extinction in the wild. And that is why we need to celebrate World Rhino Day—to draw attention to them and to the people and organizations that are making a difference where it matters, in the hallways of governments and in the front lines of protection on the ground. I hope you will support them so that rhinos will get a fighting chance. "Ben biraz ertesi gün gibiyim, eksiğim, unutkanım, öyleyim.." Edip Cansever@franslanting-Photo by @franslantingWhen you work with wild chimps, you can’t hide your intentions—they see right through you. It’s best to be patient and polite. After all, when you’re following them on foot in the forest, you’re on their home turf. Only after we had spent several weeks tracking this group of chimps in southern Senegal did we experience the beginnings of acceptance. In this portrait of a young male named “Mike” you can feel his scrutiny. You can make a difference for the future of wild chimpanzees by supporting the World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International, the Jane Goodall Institute, and Neighbor Ape, founded by primatologist Jill Pruetz, with whom we worked on assignment for National Geographic to cover Mike and others in his community.@natgeo@natgeotravel@natgeocreative@thephotosociety#chimpanzee#greatape#worldwildlifefund#wild_net#conservationinternational#janegoodallinstitute- #regrann

Utterly ridiculous that any civilised society would lift a ban on trading of elephant (or any animal) trophies.A reminder of their majesty. ・・・"There is mystery behind that masked gray visage, and ancient life force, delicate and mighty, awesome and enchanted, commanding the silence ordinarily reserved for mountain peaks, great fires, and the sea.”― Peter Matthiessen, The Tree Where Man Was Born@thephotosociety@natgeotravel@natgeocreative#respect#dignity#wisdom#elephant#awesome#wild#wildaid#wild_net#savetheelephants

@regrannedfrom @franslanting-@franslanting“The Ivory Game” I’m on my way to the Southern Ocean and we'll share more about the amazing wildlife we'll encounter there, but today we want to draw your attention to an important new documentary that is available to view now on Netflix. “ The Ivory Game,” produced by @leonardodicaprio , is a hard-hitting exposé that goes inside the illegal ivory trade to put Africa’s elephant poaching crisis back on the global agenda. Right now, the fate of Africa's elephants depends too much on the efforts of courageous individuals and small embattled groups scattered across the globe. They can’t do it without more support. We all have to raise our voices and get engaged. Organizations that support the elephant cause in a big way include the World Wildlife Fund, Wild Aid, and Save The Elephants. Please check their websites, check out the DiCaprio film and spread the word. I made this elephant image in Botswana, which is one of the few countries in the world where elephants have found a safe haven and are doing well, thanks to the leadership of the Botswana government. Stay tuned for more images and stories from us.@natgeo@natgeotravel@natgeocreative@thephotosociety@leonardodicaprio#theivorygame#elephants#botswana#poachingcrisis#ivory#savetheelephants#wild_net#worldwildlife#wildaid- #regrann#wonderful_places#beautifuldestinations#postcardsfromtheworld#places_wow#goexplore#keepexploring#lifewelltravelled#beautifulworld#beautifulnature#beautifullandscape#beaupaysage#hermosospaisajes#beautifulland#world

On this #worldrhinodayI'm remembering Maxwell, the sweet, blind rhino living at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. I was fortunate enough to share a quiet moment with him just before foster parent visiting hours ended. I will never forget the gentleness of his presence or how inspired I was by the extraordinary dedication of the people working there. Truly one of the most incredible days of my life •••••••••••••••••#dswt  #maxwelldswt#blackrhino  #whiterhino  #rhino#merurhinosanctuary  #savetherhino #saynotopoaching#racingextinction  #jointheherd#extinction#dswtat40  #worthmorealive  #wild_net  #aspinallfoundation  #celebrate#endangered#worldwildlifefund#africanwidlifefoundation#protection  #naturelovers#rememberingrhinos#whyilovekenya  #kenya  #nairobi#africa#magicalkenya
