#garambalies within the Sudano-Guinean biome, a mosaic of grassland, deciduous bush, woodland and gallery forest - just north of the vast Congo equatorial forest. This mix of habitats means that both forest species (such as #bongo , #chimpanzeeand giant forest hog) as well as savannah species (such as #giraffe , #lionand #buffalo ) are all found in and around Garamb. Pictured here is a family of giant forest hog spotted in the Azande Domaine de Chasse, just to the west of the Park. #garamba#africanparks#giantforesthogKaren Lubbe

Located in the heart of the Congo and a designated World Heritage Site, @garamba_national_parkis one of the oldest parks in Africa. However, decades of poaching at the hands of rebel armies and militarized poachers have decimated its once prolific elephant herds. When African Parks assumed management of the park in 2005, our top priority has been to overhaul law enforcement and secure the park. Today, our over 220-strong ranger team on the ground is bringing stability to this area thanks to their dedicated and tireless efforts to protect the people and wildlife who live there. Poaching of elephants is still the main threat in this park, as the demand for ivory continues. But our staff and rangers are doing all we can to create safe spaces, and allow wildlife to do what they do - to breed and thrive. C H I L L I N G.Black-and-white colobus monkeys are some of my favorites - they're absolutely gorgeous. I got lucky while working in @garamba_national_park ; one of the British intelligence officers spotted a troop not far from the park's headquarters......#naptime#monkeymagic#colobusmonkey#garamba#congo#drc#lifethroughalens#lifethroughalensphotography#marcuswestberg@africanparksnetwork#onassignmentfor @wwfsverige

The first dry season winds are blowing down from the north, and soon the Park will turn from a verdant blanket to the colour of sand. We are taking in the last of this greenery - as are the resident waterbuck near Nagero. #africanparks#garamba#wetseasonJean L
