~~ Monday Squats; of a different sort 🏋🏼‍♂️ ~~ The Overhead Squat is a more advance training tool that takes a bit of practice to get right. It’s uses are not necessarily for leg strength gain as the load is generally not as much as a regular back squat, or front squat. In saying that the overhead squat targets a variety of different aspects of training including; 1️⃣ Extension Training➡️ Forces your Thoracic spine and Abdominal muscles into extension, especially important if you spend your working day hunched over in constant flexion through your torso. 2️⃣Core Strength➡️ A lot of the core training that we tend to do is contraction work like leg raises, crunches etc. The overhead squat challenges the core for stability in an elongated position, putting the deeper core muscles under higher stress than regular core training. I also think there’s a good relationship to sports where we have to deal with an external load and stay stable I.e. like riding through a tackle! 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️ 3️⃣Shoulder Stability➡️ Training your shoulders to rotate and retract your scapula is not an easy position, and being able to stack your shoulders in the correct position with a heavy load above your head with certainly help keep them healthy in later life! 🤙🏻💪 ~~ . . . . #shoulder
