Kickin off my final semester as a ceramics student (note I’m very sad it’s coming to an end) with this large circle baking dish. I’ll be adding handles to this as some finishing touches. A goal of mine this semester is to make larger things and so far so good! videos

The results of my foray into mosaic making. I may add a course of actual rocks between the bottom two segments when I attach the whole thing to cement board. I have these scrawled down in my potter" - 1698338267990904604

. 👉 Follow me @pottery.lifestyle ✅ Double tap the pic ✅ Tag your friends - 💞💞💞💞💞 I have these scrawled down in my pottery notebook as engine vases from when I initially wrote in their weights and rough dimensions alongside a tiny diagram—I guess they must have reminded me of jet engines. Now plastered in red clay that I’ve washed off numerous times this is how the most of the pages in it look. This was in my notebook from my time at Maze Hill Pottery, it’s practically full and falling apart but it’s a precious little thing, bound in red with a golden embossed ‘Gadsy’s’ on the front. It holds all my glaze recipes, finalised and failed, pot proportions, sketches of kiln packs and crossed out to-do lists and pages of information I frankly can't remember what they’re for, springs of sums and other futile notes. When I came to Japan I spent some hours rewriting all the crucial dimensions out into a new more legible list, with weights in both imperial and metric depending on the scales at hand. That being said, I’ll certainly hold onto my old notebook with its spine taped up holding it together. Most potters I know have a little stash of these kept safely from over the years as woe betide you get rid of them as they’ll certainly be one day when you need to search back for something key. The same can said about tools, some become part of your hand, an extension of it and without it making pots feels as if you’re missing a crucial component. I’ve been throwing with a mirror in front of me to see the form of the pot more easily for the past five years but have been without one in Japan and I truly feel as if I’m missing one of my most useful tools, (although it’s probably very good practice to throw without one for a while, and it’s going fine). I loved looking through all the old apprentice notebooks at Maze Hill Pottery, spending time trying to decipher smudged and bad handwriting. Looking at the old dimensions and weights and following mysterious trails to uncover the original glaze recipes after a newly mixed batch has gone amuck. . -----------------------------
