WHY DO YOU ALWAYS WEAR ABELT ANGUS? 🤔-To keep my pants up #team30inchwaist-Dad jokes aside... there’s reasoning behind why I use a belt for basically all compound movements above 50% 1rm. -The function of the belt is to increase intra-abdominal pressure and create tightness in your body to be able to exert more force and lift heavier with stability. It helps us to brace and maintain said tightness to keep our lumber and thoracic spine from rounding and sending us to snap city.-The reason for the belt is not primarily to protect your lower back as some believe, it is to help you brace and create that intra-abdominal pressure. That is why simply wearing a belt will not fix your cringeworthy deadlift form of you do not know how to breathe and brace with the movement.-This also leads me to another point- deadlifts will not make your waist wider; look at mine for instance. ‼️Ask any lad what physical trait they desire the most and they’re sure to tell you it’s a juicy, scintillating set of breasts...right?-Examine the muscular system and you’ll notice that the pectoralis muscles run across the collarbone and sternum, not up and down it. Consequently, we can dispel any fitness industry BS about ‘inner chest’ exercises, they don’t exist.-What we do want to emphasise are the upper chest fibres (pec minor) that are easily visible in a singlet or scoop neck and will give you that sick ‘shelf chest’ look.-Here are 2 of my favourite exercises for that exact purpose. Superset them and reap the benefits. THROWING A SPANNER IN THE WORKS-I’ve always ranted on about the importance of performing your compound lifts at the start of your workout... recently I’ve been breaking my own rules to force growth and adaptation. 🤔-Here is my last set of dead’s at 180kg after 4x6 already completed...oh and an entire back/shoulders workout in the books too. The reason we’re doing this is to coax some extra growth out of my mid back (lower traps, rhomboids and Lats) whilst they’re in a pre-activated and fatigued state. If you never “feel” deadlifts in your back muscles I highly recommend trying this.-Additionally it allows me to toy around with my weekly volume allotment and have a stronger bench session the next day as I haven’t burnt out my CNS with multiple reps and sets of 200kg+ deadlifts. -Don’t be afraid to break the status quo if you’ve got a well thought out and researched plan.
