Since the hot topic right now is the whole entire kneeling, sitting, etc. during the national anthem, I decided to include my opinion/facts. First of all, I think football is football and we should keep politics away from it, but, I’m also not gonna complain about people of the United States making a statement at a time that will gain them publicity for the movement. Now, what is my opinion? My opinion is that it is entirely appropriate and is good. The message players, coaches, and teams are pushing to convey is that us as a human race need equality and respect amongst eachother regardless of color, gender, beliefs, etc. Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Alejandro Villanueva even showed slight signs of protest. For those who do not know, Villanueva served as an Army ranger in Afghanistan. Anyhow, Villanueva did go out for the national anthem, hand over heart, but, he did not stand out on the field completely....he stood at the end of the tunnel and even apologized for making people think his team was disrespecting him and the military. This shows Villanueva does indeed agree with the movement. Next...ESPN reporter for the Titans released a quote reading, “Our commitment to the military and our community is resolute and the absence of our team for the national anthem shouldn’t be misconstrued as unpatriotic”. What does that mean? It means the Titans and EVERYBODY that kneels or sits or doesn’t even come out from the locker room has love and pride in the military and their actions are meant to be for equality not for disrespect towards this countries military. If that doesn’t change your mind then how about this? Rapper B.o.B, (who you may remember for making songs such as Airplanes, Magic, etc.) got a chance to go on a tour to perform for the armed forces back in May. He asked numerous troops if they were offended by the players actions during the National Anthem and he received responses such as, “I fight because I believe in freedom and our rights to be able to protest and have free speech”. So...what now? Why must there be so much negativity towards a movement for equality and peace?
