We had an awesome bunch of shooters at today's Minuteman Challenge!
One if the elements we talk about is camaraderie, and there were several great examples of it today, but I would like to share one in particular.
This is a competition. It's meant to be challenging, but it's also meant to be fun. Everyone pushes, encourages, and teases each other into performing better. One of the rules require that you finish each run. That means if you botch the drill, have an equipment malfunction, or just fail, you still have to finish.
During one of Jeremy's runs, he failed to load enough rounds into his magazines, and found both his magazines empty before he completed the drill. He looked at me with a disappointed and panicked expression, and I told him, "load a magazine and FINISH." Obviosly this was going to result in an awful score for this run, but he scrambled to grab some loose ammo to reload a magazine. Again, this is a competition and he's trying to out perform the other shooters. Before Jeremy could get a round into a magazine, Josh and Alan pushed their loaded mags towards him yelling, "here! Here!" They could have let him fumble, ensuring better scores for themselves, but they did just the opposite. They offered their gear to a fellow shooter that they'd only just met, and encouraged him to succeed. Jeremy finished the run with a very reasonable score dispite the error. It was a perfect example of camaraderie and sportsmanship, and I'm overjoyed I got to witness it.
There are many great moments in these events, and Tony and I are really proud to be a part of them.
Thank you to everyone who attended. You make these events a blast for us to host! -Sean
